Training is FREE for anybody regardless of you joining a Host Agency or That Place For Travel. I know some host agencies make this feel like a “no-brainer”, but truth be told – 90-95% of the training you will need comes from the supplier of travel. This could be a cruise line, tour operator, hotel chain, or even a visitor bureau of a destination. The training is available for any niche you want to sell, escorted, independent travel, groups, romance, well-being, luxury, safari’s wine & food, culture, religious or many other niches that people are interested in.
The Overrated Impact of Titles and Certifications
Don’t get bogged down in titles, or certifications! I see companies offering “memberships” and certifications which don’t matter to your clients. When I hear someone is “certified”, I think back to all of the training I received starting out and realize that I got certified by the vendors and destinations FOR FREE.
Debunking the Myth
I didn’t pay for a single certification from these companies, and that includes organizations like “The Travel Institute” (and their CEUs) or CLIA (a well-regarded organization within the cruise industry). This is also why I shake my head when someone enrolls in college to learn “Tourism and Hospitality” to get into the travel industry – WHY? There is not one University or College that provides the training needed to be a Travel Agent, Advisor, or Counsellor. The training needed is specific to the vendor you are working with – and they UPDATE their training all the time, and it’s YOURS FOR FREE.

There are some special classes that have value that you can pay for, but those aren’t required in this industry – they are options to improve your brand, business, and other meaningful topics.
